Craving The Willow Creek Vampires Series Book 1 edition by Stephanie Summers Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Ok. Quick and dirty assessment. What I liked. The overall plot seemed relatively solid. There is a mystery to be solved while weaving in characters and clearly romance. It's also seems unique. Why does the town have to give up one person every 10 years or when needed to feed a vampire? What is Bastain hiding? What power draws supernaturals there? Yep.I am curious. For that I gave it a 4.
What I didn't like. The development of the plot seemed a little lacking and development of the characters was thin. There were times when the writing style went from showing you to just flat out telling you what was going on. Also interactions between characters and relationships were somewhat shallow. Sabine was annoying from time to time because her thought process lacked too much rational. I mean one minutes she loathes her life and hates vampires, Remy specifically. Then out of no where she just willingly goes along with Josh... the perfect stranger and decides to date him after he lied about being a vampire. Seriously...so unbelievable I'd be surprised if you didn't just feel my eyes roll with that last comment. Like I said, there is enough intrigue for me to rate it a 4 but without that I would have given it a 3.
Sabine knows that there’s a good chance she’ll be chosen as the next sacrifice to fulfill the infamous Willow creek vampire treaty. Still, she is devastated when she receives the notice on her eighteenth birthday and realizes that she will never be able to live out her dreams.
When Sabine meets the vampire she will be paired with, she is horrified. Remy may be the favorite progeny of Bastion, Lord of the Willow creek vampires, but he is arrogant, selfish, rude and uncaring. She knows that she will never be more to him that a food source, and yet she can’t help or understand the growing attraction she feels every time they are together.
Craving was a pleasant read. I’m a sucker for romance, so I enjoyed the storyline which focuses mainly on the conflict and chemistry between the two main characters, Sabine and Remy. The characters themselves are pretty standard, lacking in depth at times, but there was a nice chemistry between them, and I quite enjoyed Remy’s snarky comments. The supporting characters were few and really did not play much of a role in the story beyond some cliched scenes. I felt that the plot could have been tighter. It felt thin and rushed at times with large periods of times elapsing in the space of sentences. I personally would have preferred fewer, more intimate scenes. The witty dialogue made up for some of the novel’s shortfalls though and I still found ‘Craving’ an easy, fun read.
I only read 10% of this book because the writing was so weak. POV inconsistencies, too much passive voice, showing instead of telling ... just to name a few. The storyline wasn't bad, but the writing was so poor I couldn't continue to read it. This author needs to hire a good editor who will help her strengthen her writing.
The vampire Bastian had made an agreement with the populace of Willow Creek that every 10 years a human youth (18 years old) will be chosen to become a blood mate to a Vampire when he/she turns 21 years of age. In return Bastian will protect the town from other vampires and dark creatures that roam the world this book takes place in. Sabine is the human woman chosen to be Remy's blood mate. Both are against the idea in the beginning and you can guess where this story is going leaving little to no suspense. The vampires in this book remind me of "Twilight" Vampires, romantic, hot, reasonable, loving, everything I hate to see in Vampires. A real bit of light fluff romance, predictable reading. I go for the darker, inhuman type of Vampire that makes humans recoil in fear, not pant after and find sexy and want to jump into bed with. Returning this book and I got it free.
This is the first book in the Willow Creek Vampire Series and it has left me wanting more. Yes, there’s vampires, yes, they drink blood, no, there’s no sparkling vampires. But the premise is one I haven’t read before. In this little town that knows about vampires, people are selected every 10 years to pair up with one. Imagine this, on your 18th birthday you might get a scroll saying that you’ve been selected. You participate in a vampire “wedding,” so that other vampires know not to touch you and you move in with the vampire and are now theirs for the rest of your life. Sounds great, right? Sabine Crowley didn’t think so. She knew she was going to be selected because she is the blood relative that made the deal with the vampire in 1798.
Remy isn’t happy about it either. Summoned to the town where his sire chose to live, he finds out that he is to be mated. Of course, the carefree vampire doesn’t want to settle down for the rest of his life with this human! Their first meeting doesn’t go well either. How are the two of them going to be able to even be in the same house is beyond me. It better be a huge house…
I’m telling you, this story is so good, I read it all in one day. I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what Remy was going to do next to torture Sabine. With good writing and endearing characters, I’ve already started the second one. I want to know what’s going to happen next with these two.
This book was ok but while it did come to some conclusion it did end with a cliffhanger. I have read other vampire books that were better than this one and I will not be getting more in this series.
