Ximora is the fourth volume in the Brenda Strange mystery series. Like all of the others it combines genres to mix mystery, suspense and horror with the supernatural.This book follows The Missing Page two years later when Brenda is finally coming out of her shell of grief caused by the death of her partner. Her friend Cubby is relieved when Brenda shows an interest in the world by agreeing to help with a series of gruesome murders that are puzzling Tampa police detective Lisa Chambliss. Chambliss is extremely attractive and the feelings that Brenda begins to have for her are the proof that she's ready to move on with her life. Simultaneously, Brenda is enmeshed in a family secret when her grandmother dies and wills enhanced psychic powers and leadership of the family to Brenda. Those powers will come in handy as Brenda finds herself chasing evil from the past through myth and reality. The ending is desperate as Brenda races to save the life of the most innocent victim.
Ximora is not the strongest story in the Strange series, but it does reintroduce the character after a hiatus. It also sets up the possibility of another book with new powers to be explored and a possible relationship for Brenda. Ximora is one of the least developed characters in the book and seems almost a device to convey the rest of the story and provide a framework to tie everything together. There are also references to previous books that may not be clear to any reader who has not followed the series. However there is drama in the story and a particularly harrowing scene at the end does give the book some punch. The relationship between Brenda and Lisa also is interesting because Lisa comes to Brenda for help, but doesn't or won't believe in her abilities despite the evidence that is in front of her. Seeing how or if they work this out could be interesting for later books.
Patty G. Henderson is an experienced author and knows how to tell a story. This is a book for fans of horror and supernatural stories and should provide a few hours of entertaining reading.

I've never been one to read paranormal stories and, in fact would dismiss the book as soon as I understood that it was paranormal. For that reason, I was astonished when, after borrowing Tangled and Dark, the second book in the Brenda Strange Mysteries, I found that I loved the book. I had to have the rest of them. I loved all four and read them in two days. They are deliciously dark and scarey, but also sweet. I would love to read many more of this series and would like to encourage Patty G. Henderson to continue with it. I, for one will buy every Brenda Strange book she writes.

Patty G. Henderson's latest Brenda Strange mystery novel, Ximora, sees Brenda Strange having barely recovered from the death of her lover Tina two years ago, when Tampa cop Lisa comes requesting her assistance in a murder case. Something seems to be hunting the young men in town, as two bodies have been found butchered, their bodies drained of blood, and with odd words carved into their chests in what looks like Greco-Roman letters. Lisa charges Brenda with the task of finding out what those symbols may mean; when a brief meeting with an acquaintance of Lisa's, a history professor, gives her nothing but a cold response, it leads her into a new conflict. Add to that the news that Brenda's grandmother has passed away, leaving her with a startling bequest box that only she can open and the news that she is a witch, the hope of her family, it's a little too much to bear. Especially since she only just reemerged from her grief over Tina's death.
Who is Professor Amanda? What does she want with Lisa, and what connection does she really have to the stunning statue of the warrior Ximora that she keeps in her office? What exactly is the statue and how might it relate to the murders plaguing Tampa streets? And will Lisa and her family, in deed will Brenda, survive to really sort out what they discover? You'll have to read to find out.
Patty G. Henderson delivers yet another intense work in her latest novel, Ximora, one that, again, as always, leaves us thrilled, and looking forward to what her creative mind might offer next! )
I have enjoyed Ms. Henderson’s Brenda Strange series. More!! Is there more after the 4th book? I look forward to continue where Brenda and Lisa left off. I usually enjoy a story where the women are the ones with the strength and the powers and these stories are great! Waiting patiently.
